FH6 Best Off-Road & Rally Cars — Complete Dirt & Cross Country Guide

Forza Horizon 6 off-road

Japan's off-road scene is wilder than you'd expect. Mountain trails, rice field scrambles, snowy resort paths, and volcanic dirt tracks — FH6's map has more off-road variety than any Horizon game before it.

Here's every car worth building for dirt racing, rally, and cross country.

Dirt vs Cross Country — Know the Difference

Dirt RacingCross Country
SurfacePacked dirt, gravel roadsMud, sand, snow, grass, rocks
JumpsRare, smallConstant, massive
Best carsRally-spec, lightweight AWDTrophy trucks, SUVs, heavy off-roaders
Tire compoundRallyOffroad
SuspensionMedium height, firmMax height, soft
Speed stylePrecision through cornersPoint and send it

Trying to use a rally car in cross country = bottoming out on every jump. Trophy truck on a dirt track = too heavy for tight corners. Pick the right tool.

Off-Road Racing Tips

Read the Terrain

SurfaceBehaviorAdjustment
Loose gravelLess grip, more slidingSofter tires, higher ride height
MudSlows you down, unpredictableAvoid if possible, AWD mandatory
SandHeavy steering, slow accelerationMomentum is everything — don't stop
SnowLeast grip, longest brakingSnow tires (special compound), gentle inputs
Wet grassZero gripAvoid. Just don't drive on it.

Jump Technique

  1. Approach straight — any angle on the ramp = spinning in the air
  2. Lift slightly before the lip — prevents nosediving
  3. In the air: Tap the brake to nose down, tap throttle to nose up
  4. Land with throttle applied — keeps the car stable on landing
  5. Land on a downhill slope if possible — smoother transition

Water Crossing

FH6 Japan has rivers, rice paddies, and coastal sections with shallow water:

  • Water slows you down massively — avoid if there's a bridge nearby
  • If you must cross, enter at full speed and maintain throttle
  • AWD helps significantly in water
  • Don't shift gears in deep water — the resistance bogs the engine
